Through the integration of cutting-edge innovations and environmentally sustainable practices, the project aims to contribute significantly to sustainable development goals, while promoting technological competitiveness on a continental level. This commitment reflects Europe's ambition to lead the transition towards a greener and technologically advanced future, emphasising the importance of projects that simultaneously embrace innovation and environmental responsibility.
DESDEMONA is positioned at the crossroads of European initiatives, effectively responding to multiple challenges outlined by the European community:
- EU Challenge: To reduce the environmental maintenance footprint.
> Opportunity : Improving the efficiency of maintenance tasks will reduce resources needed to perform maintenance (e.g., water,
combustible, paper from work orders, etc.), reduce energy consumption by equipment that is not tuned up, reduce the waste (e.g.,
consumable parts, filters, oil, grease, etc.), and contaminants discharged in water, ground or atmosphere

- EU Challenge : To provide tools to support companies in self-assessment of compliance with human workloads and introduce adequate risk management measures.
> Opportunity : The model will implement a digital tool to assess the consistency between cognitive tasks and maintenance operators selected for accomplishing them. This approach reduces the accident probability and increases working environment safety. - EU Challenge: To plan career guidance and targeted training of the companies’ employees.
> Opportunity: The assignment task-operators will lead to identifying a target training for each operator, ensuring a work sharing of the most common tasks and reducing obsolete maintenance policies. - EU Challenge: To tackle bias in innovative technologies and artificial intelligence.
> Opportunity: Adopting suitable digital tools by considering the maintenance task and the selected operator will facilitate the use of the most innovative digital technologies. - EU Challenge: To support the company’s human capital management.
> Opportunity : The tool will balance the cognitive workload, motivate the most expert operators, and promote the program to train younger workers
occupational

- EU Challenge: To implement computerized maintenance management systems.
> Opportunity : Identifying the proper operator for each task will allow the implementation of advanced maintenance systems to reduce downtime, diminish repair costs, mitigate risks and accidents, and increase the plant’s productivity. - EU Challenge: To increase the company’s asset reliability
> Opportunity : Identifying the proper operator for each task will reduce the human error probability and increase the reliability of the maintained assets
economic

- EU Challenge: To promote continuous education and training to develop the next-generation maintenance workforce with digital
and social competence.
> Opportunity : The model will identify the most suitable operators to adopt new technologies and recent theoretical models of maintenance. This approach necessarily will lead to identifying the competencies needed for the maintenance operators’ next
generation. - EU Challenge: To plan a periodic evaluation of available skills and to update the needed competencies.
> Opportunity: Compared to predicted maintenance tasks, the database of available skills will allow for planning the most effective
recruitment strategies. - EU Challenge : To promote retention plans for key employees’ social inclusion.
