WHO does What

Maintenance 5.0 is carried out by the DESDEMONA project through the synergistic and interconnected activity of the various research units, each responsible for a specific task:

POLIBA, as coordinator, leads the ambitious task of defining maintenance activities, developing an analytical model that evaluates the cognitive load of operators. This work is carried out in synergy with the efforts of UNICAL, which focuses on the emotional analysis of operators through advanced techniques such as facial recognition and biosignals. In parallel, UNICAL is also busy testing the Decision Support System (DSS) in a controlled laboratory environment, providing crucial feedback for its refinement.

While POLIBA and UNICAL deal with the cognitive and emotional aspects, UNIParthenope comes into play by guiding the evaluation of the most suitable technologies to assist operators in maintenance activities. The research includes the development of a virtual environment that simulates real maintenance situations to evaluate the benefits brought by mixed reality to the cognitive load of operators.

At the same time, UNICT makes an essential technological contribution, integrating and implementing the DSS in an open platform to facilitate collaboration between companies and the academic world. Expertise in Mixed Reality is crucial for the development of an adaptive and learning-based system, which uses data collected during the use of the platform.
